Rounding back on some [community profile] snowflake_challenge prompts:

Day 4: Post a fanwork

Out of nowhere, a year or more since its last update, comes a new chapter for Executive Reform: A. Seismology

Executive Reform is my strange Pacific Rim/FFVII fusion, most of it about, well, executive reform: a world in which Shinra accidentally ends up fighting for the good of the Planet instead of its bottom line. It doesn't make them automatically good people; but it's an interesting ride trying to find out where they go.

The main chunk of Executive Reform focused on the latter-days of the war against the kaijuu, when resources are running thin. It's probably my favourite AU universe: Junon in pieces, Midgar also in pieces, Edge not much more than a Shatterdome and slums while all the rich and connected have fled over the plains and into mountains. It's about how Turks and scientists and weapons engineers and megalomaniacal businesspeople turn into war strategists and war heroes and – really – war veterans who learn the price of things.

The alpha (as opposed to numeric) chapters as listed on Tumblr are going to be about the earlier parts of the War: back when SOLDIER was fighting and winning, and fighting kaijuu almost seemed like a PR and propaganda gift from the heavens.

We shall see where it goes! I never plan for any of ER, but it always ends up being some of my favourite stuff – I've gone and played in the sandbox for literally millions of words in a private back-and-forth co-writing freefall.

Day 9: In your own space, set some goals for the coming year. They can be fannish or not, public or private.

Non-fannish (this quarter):
  • Lose 5kg by end of March, negotiable if I gain muscle mass

  • Lift 80kgs by then

  • Finish reading two coding books (one historical, one practical)

  • Make and achieve some goals for learning Angular.js 1.5

  • Finish reading at least 2 fiction books

  • Write at least 8K of something original

Fannish (this year):

  • New icons on DW for my current fandoms

  • Get to 700 kudos this year

  • Rec at least 3 canons (Rush, Chicken Rice Wars, Baru Cormorant?)

  • Write a 15K+ fic

  • Write for Vorkosigan, Clone Wars, Hikaru no Go

  • Redeem myself for [profile] notprimetime and participate this year

  • Participate in at least 2 other comms

  • Meet some new people! Write with some new people!

Also, hi new fandom snowflake people! Please do come say hi!
karanguni: (Default)
So, after a decently long hiatus, I'm back?

Wrote a decent amount, so they're all getting grouped together here and linked to AO3. A big hello to anyone from the community, too!

So, in some alternate universe when K writes Batman Beyond she is actually able to stop. Clearly that is not this universe, because when K writes Batman Beyond in this universe she loses her fingers. One day I will write for active fandoms. It shall be a happy day, full of me never being able to write Inception. One day.

Written for [livejournal.com profile] au_bingo prompt Other: Mundane. Or, the Fic In Which Terry Does Not Actually Stumble Upon The Cave. Also the Fic In Which Terry Thinks Weird Thoughts About Women, Men, Workplace Attire and Everything.

Dressed

Fandom: Batman Beyond
Rating: PG
Characters: Terry, Bruce, hand-wavey Powers
Summary: There are, theoretically, other ways to fight crime than in cape and cowl.

4078 words (COUNT THEM!!) and too much Terry-brain-splody for one night.

'Don't walk,' Bruce says to Terry's back, watching him wade out amongst the sharks. 'Strut.' )
karanguni: (zechs MERQUISE)
Many thanks to [personal profile] voksen for the repeated cheerleading and withstanding my Unending Whine. 8D *buffs this fic* I'm really kind of happy with this one. \o/

Passover

Fandom: Gundam Wing
Characters: Zechs, allusions to Treize and 13/6 if you squint. Random guest appearances, including Wufei.
Rating: PG13
Warnings: Set just after the series, but pre-Endless Waltz. Standalone part of a future series (Treize Lives!TM).
Summary: Friendship is unnecessary; it has no survival value. Zechs lives, but that, too, is an oversimplification.

5651 words and a whole bunch of... words! Plus a summary that cannibalises a C.S Lewis quote.

An asylum's an asylum by any name. )
karanguni: (RUFUS looks)
The Business of Fear

Characters: Rufus, Methos; cameos by Tseng and Luck

Summary: Rufus needs men who are know something of the business of fear.

Notes: Runs in the same line as New Men (Baccano!/Final Fantasy VII), but you don't need to read it to read this! Written for the no_true_pair prompt: Rufus is bound and blinded -- does Methos try to help, or take advantage of the situation?

4952 words and Rufus doing some recruiting!

Hide and seek is something Methos has come to be good at over the years, but he has absolutely no illusions about playing against the Shinra Company. )
karanguni: (BATMAN and NIGHTWING)
Pauper-AU strikes back, for charity! Written for [livejournal.com profile] scheherezhad as her tart for [livejournal.com profile] sweetcharityvox. \o\ It's almost like cheating!

4907 words and a lot of Bats Trying To Be Normal (TM).

'Now or next year, Grayson?' Jason shouts from downstairs. )

4447 words and Dick proving (once more) that to love Bruce in any capacity is to love the sound of your own suffering.

Dick discovers that Bruce works for some engineering company – he's a whizz with numbers, does things like the grocery bill up mentally and without even using his fingers. )
karanguni: (TSENG smiles)

Functional explanation: The joint fault of [livejournal.com profile] karanguni and [livejournal.com profile] logistika_nyx.

( Entropy isn't Tseng's favoured form of therapy. )
karanguni: (BALTHIER beckons)
IT'S GROWING INTO SOME BIZARRE KIND OF MONSTER. I warn you. I wrote this under the influence of a green tea latte and Britney Spears. Your sanity is not insured, no more than your financial instruments are.

Some Things You Can't Buy, For Everything Else There's The Theoretical Joint Bunansa-Shinra Empire

Fandom: Final Fantasy VII/Final Fantasy XII/The Stockmarket

Strange Untitled Stockmarket!AU

Fandom: Final Fantasy VII/Final Fantasy XII/The Stock Exchange
Rating: PG-99
Characters: Balthier/Tseng, Tseng/Rufus
Summary: Tseng's in New York, Balthier's in London, and Rufus is in the sky as the world burns around them. Hedging on futures can be such tricky things.
Functional explanation: It's all [livejournal.com profile] logistika_nyx's fault. A good chunk of this belongs to her, adapted to fit the situation and tense. You can read the original crack-ery here to see precisely which bits. Nyx: I apologise. Profusely. But probably not profusely enough.

Mostly, this is just a trader!AU: in which Tseng and Balthier make money on the gone-to-shit stock markets of our world. And Rufus waggles his eyebrows a bit. Hooray!

2425 words and oh, such a hell I am going to for this. Beware un-beta'd tense shifts!

'Are you an optimist?' Balthier would say into the receiver, when Tseng picked up. )

(Follows on the heels of a 50 year displacement into the world of Terry McGinnis.)

5104 words and more inter-Batclan relationship tsunamis. \o/

You're using your command voice, Dick wants to tell Bruce. Do you realise that? )

[edit:] Ow, do my hands hurt from this "drabble arc". Right, K, whatever floats your boat...
karanguni: (DICK swings weird)
I'm not sure if I'm allowed to call this a "drabble" arc anymore...

And lead is light as a feather

Fandom: Batman/Batman Beyond
Rating: PG
Characters: Bruce, Dick, Terry
Warnings: Assumes RotJ has happened. Assumes comics!history. Bruce, because this man deserves a warning all on his own. Typical Batman Relationships (TM).
Summary: Following his 50 year displacement, Dick learns about all the things that have - and have not - changed in the era of Terry McGinnis.

Second in the Better Dead than Lead arc.

4746 words and I'm not even halfway through the list of tiny things I'm supposed to write and oh god, Bruce, why do you have mental sex with everyone?

It's automatic for Dick to say, 'It wasn't your fault.' )
karanguni: (LUCIFER morningstar)

Summary: Energy must convert, one form to another, switching to conserve.
Warnings: Uh. AU?! 3am writing?! Dave Matthews rip-off?!

832 words, and it is totally not fun at all being awake at this hour with your head unable to be switched off.

walkin' through the desert I met a man, and he told me 'bout his crazy plan: he'd been walking for twenty days; he was gonna walk on for twenty more. )
karanguni: (danny OCEAN)
Title: Making Family

Rating: PG
Warnings: Written for no true pair. Oh my god, crossover genfic! There's slash. But only if you sort of turn your head sideways and squint.
Summary: Danny doesn't want to have kids; Claire would kill to have some. It doesn't take too long before Danny realises, maybe this kid isn't so bad after all --

1528 words and really bad recruiting skills. I HAVE NO EXCUSE.

Not there was anything to make easier, because Danny wasn't doing this, because if Danny did do it Rusty would have a -- )
karanguni: (uh HAWKEYE)
So. I haven't written anything in ages, I have an exam tomorrow, my brains are falling out of my ears, and 0TP on IJ starts up a new week worth of prompts. So I look at the list, and in my caffeine high, it strikes me that no one ever said I couldn't write Epic Poetry (TM) for 0TP, right?

Right. If you're expecting my usual. Um. Well. I apologise sincerely to fans of both Final Fantas VII and Baccano! alike. I tried to think of a good one. This is all my brain gave me. D8

Title: A Tale of Two Turks
Fandom: Baccano!/Final Fantasy VII
Characters: Luck and Tseng
Rating: PG13
Warnings: The prompt was: Tseng and Luck as the main characters in a fairy tale. Crack, anachronisms and rhyming couplets. Think old school Will Smith rap while you read. Yes. Yes.
Summary: Tseng and Luck in a quest for Shinra and the Greater Good.

666 (-111) words and god I am going to hell. I have no excuse, except that maybe I have an exam in 9 hours ahksafjlsf.

[edit] Now with more accurate rhyming metre!

A fairy tale in 15 stanzas. )
karanguni: (JUDGE)
Mmm, ficspam. Working on everything that I'm not meant to be working on, as usual.

[edit] Because I have no willpower whatsoever: Rufus/Tseng porn. Tseng's going to have one hell of a laundry bill.

Personal ref of random blabbery ideas for the prompts I've got left to do \o/ ENGLISH IS NOT A LANGUAGE THAT I CAN SPREAK. Go ahead. Comment. I DARE YOU. )

Also, Iron Man fic rec of major amazingness: The Value of Secrets by Maya Tawi. Jarvis/Tony Stark. You know you want to.

Meanwhile, a FMA/Final Fantasy VII drabble of mine on IJ, linked to avoid 242904 Posts of Death on your flist. Zack and Hawkeye and dogs. Yes, dogs.

And then the real post:

Title: When The World Ends
Fandom: Baccano!/Ocean's 11
Characters: Claire; Rusty, Luck, Danny and Linus cameos
Rating: PG
Warnings: Crossover written for the No True Pair challenge over at IJ; prompt being: Rusty and Claire: it's the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine. Genfic is the way to go, because I fail at plot and all that other cool stuff. D:
Summary: Playing poker until Armageddon.

2192 words and the epic failure of plot!sense. \o/

Time for an old man to get to bed. )
karanguni: (RENO turns)
So, I try to write a PWP for my no_true_pair prompt (Luck/Rufus/____) over at IJ, and what do I get? Character plot! \o/ *cuddles the evil spawn fic nonetheless* Fear not the AU; you need to know very little about Baccano!, truth be told. It's like one gigantic outside-looking-in thing on Tseng (and Rufus). Plus one to my attempts at turning everyone into a Turk!

Title: New Men
Fandom: Baccano!/Final Fantasy VII
Pairing: Luck/Tseng/Rufus
Rating: NC-17
Warnings: Uh, AU? Sex? Luck as a Turk? 8D
Summary: It's a new age when men are unafraid of being exactly what they are; Luck envies them enough to put on the suit and call himself Shinra. (2822 words.)

2822 words and lots of crossover goodness. You barely even need to know Luck!

Luck knows he's already waited more than enough lifetimes to be what they are. )

A universe of unmapped grief and love
And new master light is beyond
The pleiades and plow and southern stars.

O soaring
Icarus of outworld, burn bright
The traceries of known skymarks,
Slide the highway planets behind
Your clear waxed wings.

Go conquer the everywhere left
Beyond your sad confinement
In a predicted bonehouse,
Witch thrown riddle of flesh
And water.

O soar until nothing
remains but great glittering holes
In the black godspun shirt over your head.
