I really enjoyed your story for DDSherman this year. Do you mind if I add you?

I do not mind at all! Your comment made me so happy--it made my week! I saved the email notification in a folder of things that make me happy/cheer me up because it was so incredibly nice. (I have been up to my ears in family for the holidays but I am hoping to reply to comments this weekend.)

If it's alright, I'm adding you as well--I would love to be more involved in BoB fandom!

[personal profile] partypaprika 2020-01-04 04:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Ahaha, I totally get it. I am the same for real life people. I think only one or two of my real life friends have access to my goodreads page.

[personal profile] partypaprika 2020-01-04 04:37 pm (UTC)(link)
That is amazing and I'm so sad that I missed that discussion! God, I miss how intense and all-encompassing that fandom was. I was going through some old boxes the other day and found a box half-filled with Japanese magazines featuring various JE groups (mainly Arashi lol) on the cover. I have no clue when I acquired these or why I've kept them so long but they made me so nostalgic.

Great! Have added. There's a DW comm called [community profile] heavyartillery that does events and stuff, too.

I haven't watched/read the original series but I like that RNM is a a sci-fi murder mystery! There are also some very cool (and hot!) characters.

What do you go by/where can you be found? [personal profile] minim_calibre (I am minim-calibre or minim_calibre everywhere except Twitter, where I am MinimCalibre, but I'm really only active on DW these days, for certain values of active.)

What did you write this Yuletide? So Large Against the Sky, Gifted, 20k or so of Frank/Bonnie because apparently, at some point, long became my default (I’m at four straight Yuletides with my assignment running over 10k) and I’m still confused by that.

What are your fandoms? At this point? Damned if I know, really. I don’t have any overpowering ones at the moment, just a lot of little loves. I mean, I’ll sometimes claim Yuletide is my fandom and even I’m not sure if I’m kidding. My fandom history is listed in one of my more recent DW entries.

What are you interested in/what would you be interested in reading on your feed? Many things. I’m curious and I’m especially curious about people, especially people who like to talk about why they write or read things. I am the target audience, writers, for your DVD commentary and reveals posts. As for what I’m interested in, fandom, Gen X complains about everything, fountain pens, movies that catch my interest, puns, and deeply corny jokes.

Any fandoms you're looking forward to seeing in Yuletide next year? I’m hoping to see Knives Out there next year.

Anon memer? If so, what did you have fun with this year? (Non-anon memers... this is still a valid question!) I dip my toes in from time to time, especially before sign-ups open (look, it’s important to know when you’re going to need to drop a canon because there’s a letter that makes you realize you just cannot risk getting assigned to that person, okay?). (I mean, fine, if I'm going to admit to anything beyond that, it's that the continued wanking over a certain canon created by someone I've met and have my own personal opinions about that I'd cheerfully admit unanon, but only in physical space, has been amusing the hell out of me for reasons best described as incredibly, exceptionally, phenomenally petty.)

Optional details are optional... but fun to read. Anything else? I’m feeling performance anxiety around this introduction whole process. Makes no sense, but that’s where we are with it. It’s probably for the best that I’ve never had to try online dating.

I think more people should write meta about their fics! It's riveting stuff.

I'm a dreadful one for not requesting The Pillow Book for Yuletide, which I really should do this year. I also like other bits of Japanese history, but Heian is my fave.

I'm late to the party, but in my defense, my late Dec/early Jan has been super heavy on the family dysfunction this year. :(

What do you go by/where can you be found? I'm ChokolatteJedi on here, AO3, Tumblr, Twitter... pretty much wherever fans are found.

What did you write this Yuletide? Jurassic Park Orig Trig, First Wives Club, GSIB, Coco, Lilo and Stitch, Pocahontas, and Nightmare Before Christmas

What are your fandoms? My Megafandoms are Harry Potter, Whedonverses, the Stargates, White Collar, and others. YT-sized Fandoms include MASH, Danger Days, Tortall, Dragonriders of Pern, The Librarians, and most Disney movies.

What are you interested in/what would you be interested in reading on your feed?Any of the above, and pretty much anything else on my AO3. I'm wide-read and wide-writing.

Any fandoms you're looking forward to seeing in Yuletide next year? I enjoy several perennial favorites, like Pern and the various Disney movies. New stuff? 9-1-1 Lone Star, Avenue 5, Tommy, and Locke & Key. (I'm also so very excited for Star Trek: Picard, but will not try to shoehorn my large fandom into yuletide. ;)

Anon memer? If so, what did you have fun with this year? (Non-anon memers... this is still a valid question!) I enjoy the writing threads, the camaraderie, and the chance to get second (and third) opinions when I second guess things. I'm also one of the Stats Coalies, and love those threads.

Optional details are optional... but fun to read. Anything else? RL and work have recently kept me from writing as much as I like/used to, but I'm hoping to get back to it.

helloo, friend!
a few suggestions on primers, all perfectly readable as standalones or are standalones

- Prisoners of Zenda, if you like unabashed fanfic of a golden oldie, that ditches all the dodgy parts in favour of evil minions swashbucking unapologetically, and ladies getting better treatment than in the original plot. one of those where romance-to-adventures ratio is in heavily in favour of adventures

- Any Old Diamonds, for a great single POV & jewel theft

- Spectred Isle, for magical realism and pretty touching romance with both POVs present

- Think of England, for edwardian era country party murders, Jewish spies and homages to R.Haggard
