karanguni: (BONTEN is sleepy)

Not dead yet, though I can't laugh and I can't sing

My throat is attempting to jump out of itself. While it's not yet succeeded, it has settled for setting me to gurgling with pain and tight-jaw-ed-ness. D: DISCOMFORT HO. Forgive a K for not writing. D: *thinks sadly of the shiny Batfic and Tsengfic waiting in my currently incoherent head*

Anyone have super-amazing-throat-hurty-curing remedies?

Or a way of tearing people off Persona 3 by force?

Piping hot mug of chai latte. I went through eight sachets over the past two days and am considering buying another couple of boxes to last me until I get better.

Trying to write 3000 word proposal with head feeling like it's stuffed full of wool. I think I can safely say that I EMPATHISE. SO MUCH. Guh.

At least, colds can't be transmitted via internet, but comfort and hugs can?:D

Here you go => *hugs*

Mmmmmmmmmmmmm chai. I wish it were easier to find that stuff here. Or cheaper, at least.

*snugsnug*

No chai blends in supermarkets? As in... just the tea bags, no latte?

[identity profile] karanguni.livejournal.com 2009-04-12 01:18 pm (UTC)(link)
No latte, just the bags. TRAGIC NO?

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_ice_lady_/ 2009-04-12 01:24 pm (UTC)(link)
No latte here either, but I has this (http://www.papanicholas.com/assets/items/large/Bodum_Electric_Milk_Frother.jpg)! <3

An awesome substitute is also whipped cream. I know it sounds weird, but besides being fattier than mlik, chances are you won't notice the difference.

Just whip the whipping cream, make chai normally, add a sip of milk into chai (to mimic the latte slowly dissolving into it) and put a few spoons of whipped cream on top.

Trust me, you won't notice the difference!

Awwwwwwwww man I want me one of those babies. *drools*

I suppose the other alternative is really hot, really sweet milk tea except that keeps me up at night.

Also, I insist that you update me on your latest hijinks in Bali! Though you don't have to do that right now, since we're both sick as dogs. (It was one of those ideal holiday destinations in my mind when I was younger, though there's a pinch of caution thrown in now after the Bali bombings)

p.s. your icon. Where is it from? I just realised that I don't know, and that I never asked.

[identity profile] karanguni.livejournal.com 2009-04-12 01:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Bali was a lot of lazing in the sun, and the stuff in my comments to Nyx. 8D More when I am coherent!

pps: icon? Which, this default one of mine, or the one up there? This one's Cowboy Bebop (Spike), and the one up there is Amatsuki (Bonten, voiced by the lovely Suwabe)

Awww, poor thing! Something throaty, surprisingly, caught me last night as well. *sniffles and tries to scratch the base of her tongue*

I swear by those pastille for throat - Strepsils (http://www.strepsils.com/). Sadly, I've no idea how and where they're available.

Been through their website and realized the packages they send here differ slightly, so I'm not 100% positive, but I think it was this baby (http://www.strepsils.com/product_range_strepsils_cool.php). Or MAYBE it was this (http://www.strepsils.com/product_range_strepsils_strefen.php). (I don't remember the taste, I was so blocked at the time that I would've drunk motor oil if someone promised to help.)

Anyway, one of these babies (and I'm certain there are other variants of other companies, but I'm showing you what I know and have tried) is SO GOOD. And I mean SO GOOD! You let it dissolve in your mouth and it completely numbs everything. As you swallow, it numbs your throat and even your oesophagus (it has a warning that taking too much will cause short term paralysis of upper digestive system :D), and you feel NOTHING. I mean it! Sadly, it's rather short term, but since 8 pastille is a day maximum, it's quite workable.

... in other news... ever tried dissolving aspirin in your throat? I did that for horrendous tooth aches before (just put it in and let it slowly melt in your saliva) and was amazed how well it worked. *shrugs* I'd check with someone who knows more medicine on that one (all I know is that, while generally aspirin is saving medicine for me, when it comes to respiratory/throat issues, it offers no relief AT ALL).

Drink huge amounts of green tea, too. While most doctors don't rec alcohol, I sometimes make buttered rum or just sip a few sips of rum (hey! Aclohol = antiseptic! :D), and gorge myself in ice-cream IF it helps with that specific sore throat (why take cooling pastille when you can take ice-cream? :D).

Strepsils we have, and I used to eat them by the million. Not sure if I've got a box or strip at home right now, though.

Aspirin we don't get too much of! But we've got paracetamol - I snuck two earlier tonight, so far nada effecto.

Mmmm, green teaaaaaaaa.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_ice_lady_/ 2009-04-12 01:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Eeep! Well, the cold I'm mentioning up there in that comment, paracetamol and aspirin had the same effect on me - nada.

When I went to the ER 'cause I couldn't stand the pain anymore, they offered ketoprofen first, which my body can't stand, so their next advice was ibuprofen and, for the quick relief, I got a shot of diclofenac (but they generally advised me off taking it as it has awful stomach and kidney side effects). And ibuprofen worked like a charm!

But yeah, stuff yourself with tea!!!!

[identity profile] karanguni.livejournal.com 2009-04-12 01:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Ibuprofen only comes in liquid form here, I think - they use it for cough syrup for babies.

Your pain-relief sounds rather painful! D: *hugs*

Teaaaaaa. I am having some, with honey and lemon. 8D

Hm. Everyone else's suggestions are a lot better than what I've got. The only thing I can remember doing when I used to get sore throats is gargling with warm salt water. I've no idea how much it actually helped.

Dequacaine. http://www.chemistdirect.co.uk/dequacaine_1_2359.html

They're throat pastilles for super ouchy sore throats, and for me, they beat Strepsils into a cocked hat. These babies are heavy duty. Also, though I wouldn't recommend this normally, but scalding hot tea, as hot as you can stand it and get it to hit the back of your throat. I swear it helps.

Btw, it you can't get the Dequacaine, let me know and I'll send some so you have some for any next time there might be.

Keep washing it out well. By gurgling. And drink lots of water too
