Maybe it's just a lifetime of fic talking, but charging through companion dialogue options and personal quests and then just having them be done leaves me feeling... empty. It's weirdly hollow-ing, and unpleasant.
Fwiw, I had a hard time connecting with DAI's companions. The story says everything right in the text of the dialogue without really giving me anything to chew on. There are exceptions (war table, random codex entries) but the face-to-face dialogue with the characters and the main quests mostly left me feeling sort of blah. Cassandra and Leliana were the big exceptions though.
I found Leliana during Halamshiral (sp?? HOW DO I SPELL ANYTHING WITHOUT A WIKI) a lot of flavours of fun and wonderful; also Cassandra, yessssssss. But for the most part the companions are leaving me flat, and for a game that's this big... it's lonely. D:
