And then

I'm in Venice less than 12 hours before it floods, missing the peak historical level by only a few CM, and St Mark's is underwater and the hotel - a very nice dig just next to the square - is out of power. The mayor's apparently declared a state of emergency.

Can I get off this wild ride yet?
