Fandoms: Everything? My first loves will always be Weiß Kreuz and Dir en grey. Otherwise I love anything with adventurous boys with a penchant for weaponry. Mafiosos? Crazy boys with guns? Misunderstood vigilantes? Love 'em. I like stuff by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, Neal Stephenson and Warren Ellis. I love a lot of different anime and manga, too many to even bother listing here ( but if it has guns and boys and boys with guns? I love it! ). I'm getting much more into comics/graphic novels now, but I admit I'm still slow on the TV fandoms. I blame this on the fact that I do not have a TV. ( I will make an attempt at listing random fandoms after the reveal. Maybe. )

I have yet to be sold on Neal Stephenson. I loved Diamond Age - ok, the first two thirds, then it appears he took a load of drugs - but I have tried and tried to read the Baroque Cycle, and it just won't happen. They're sitting on my bookshelf, looking critical.

Warren Ellis isn't God! He's INTERNET JESUS. ( I agree on the Neil Gaiman bit, of course. )

I am also waffling a bit on Neal Stephenson. The first thing I ever read by him was Cryptonomicon, which is so awesome I cannot describe it in words. But when I picked up Anathem I wasn't sold, and didn't even get past the intro. I think I'm going to try the Baroque Cycle, because I have heard interesting things about how he portrays Isaac Newton. *g*

I haven't read Cryptonomicon; the length is putting me off a bit. Also, it's a bit too heavy to be carried around in my bag all day long (which is how I normally get through books), which means that I'm more likely to put it down mid-flow and and forget about it.

I was about a quarter of the way through Quicksilver before I got distracted; I do keep meaning to give it another go one of these days. Probably after I get around to reading Jonathan Strange, though.

It is pretty long. It's not the book I would recommend to people just getting into Neal Stephenson, but it's the one I started with and it's excellent. A bit rough in some places, and it took me a long time to read, but it was engaging, so I got through it. :)

I think I definitely need to pick up the Baroque Cycle. I've been meaning to read all of it... I just need to find the time.
