If you can be good -

He's not my President, he's not a perfect man, but he has words and I, a human, listened:

We reject as false the choice between our safety and our ideals.

This means so much to me as an individual, as a citizen, as a person on our shared earth and as everything else that I can't even say what it means anymore.

I heard that line and my heart stopped and I heard nothing for a few seconds after. ♥

so many things in that speech, omg. it didn't move me as much as the election night speech, but i totally still cried a little. :D

I think his election night speech is one of the most stunning jems of modern writing - and he had a lot more freedom to speak about politically charged things then. Nothing will ever be as bright as what that speech was for me; I bawled my eyes out at that. This speech was more for America, less for the Universe (TM), but still.

BAWWWWWWWW ♥

oh, it totally is. &hearts on the order of awesome of the "I have a dream" speech, even.

also, this sentence? "We are a nation of Christians and Muslims, Jews and Hindus — and non-believers." TOTALLY MADE ME FLAIL (even though he forgot the Buddhist portion, which is admittedly tiny over here...)! i was thinking that through the whole ceremony, and when he said it i was like THANK YOU, FINALLY. *g*

Yay! I just watched the inauguration too - during dinner. Hahah. I loved that sentence too, it's a good thing to say.

I'm really curious what the future will bring.

It will, at least, involve less stupid, even if it still involves fail. :D

I am late to the party because I have slept in. I curse my phone alarm, which has failed me on numerous occasions.

I want so badly for him to succeed in making good on those promises. I'm certainly not an idealist by nature, and as far as politics go I've rarely been optimistic. Like you, I'm not a citizen of the US, but like so many other people this event has instilled a strange sense of hope in me.
Political commentators are constantly pointing out the difficulty of the extent of change which he speaks of. This is true. If it were easy, they would have done it already. At the same time, he has already initiated so much change on his way to the top, I can only hope that this continues now that he's there.
As for how moving this speech was, I'm inclined to agree with others: if the election night speech was a ten, this was more like a eight. But then, seeing as he addressed the hard!issues which could initiate several small armageddons on their own, I think this is understandable.

tl;dr <3

*snuggles your phone alarm*

I don't think it's going to be an easy road at all, and maybe he'll screw up - but god do I have to thank him for giving an entire generation something to believe in. :D

He's a good at words, no doubt about that :D

I like people, who are good at words :DDDDD

Better than misunderestimated presidents, that's for sure. :D
