DUDE. WHAT? HAHA. I AM FLATTERED, BUT ALSO AT A LOSS AS TO WHY YOU THINK I'D BE SUITABLE. I ALSO HAVE A BURNING DESIRE TO KNOW THE CONTEXT FROM WHICH THIS MAD IDEA AROSE.
NO, SCRAP THE PREVIOUS COMMENT. I SAW THE RELEVANT THREAD. HOLY CRAP. THE PAIR OF YOU ARE FRIGHTENING WITH WHAT YOU CAN CONCOCT. I WILL SAY "YES, WHERE CAN I SIGN UP?" SINCE I AM SECRETLY A MASOCHIST, BUT I BELIEVE THE TWO OF YOU ARE THE ONES DESTINED TO EXPERIENCE TRUE PAIN (I CONSIDER THIS WARNING ENOUGH FOR THOSE WHO ARE WILLING TO ENLIST SOMEONE WITHOUT EVER HAVING HEARD THEM SPEAK HAHA).
p.s. logistical matters: how is this to be done? I have a microphone, but I've never used it and I don't know what program I would have to use to do a voice recording. Also, if I am to narrate, do I still record it separately? I ask because it will be rather strange recording "Balthier says (pause) Rufus replies (pause)" etc etc.
- you record, nyx records, I don't care what format you record it in or what format, just include pauses whenever there's a break in your part - ship it to me - i stitch - i end up late for said meeting
I use Audacity, freeware, tolerably good, can output in multiple formats. K evidently has a system of piecing the bits together (an editor?). I don't have an editor.
I was thinking, and editing Balthier's text last night, if I add in Balthier saying comments like 'come sit on the couch, you overly regal form of whore,' we should be able to avoid the narratorial insertion of 'Balthier says, patting the couch suggestively.'
Which means you could narrate the chunks of text, but not the dialogue? And all continuously, I presume...K might have more ideas.
Everyone, do whatever you feel is comfortable, if you want to pad dialogue -- try and get it so that no one has to cut in half sentence like Nyx says: Rufus does not go: "I am blah" in K's voice, SAID HE *INSERT D'S VOICE HERE*.
Sorry, shippnig things and running around and cursing and angry and LATE.
Ok. Taking the first step and downloading Audacity.
Nyx, your idea of editing some of the dialogue sounds like a good idea. I've just gone back and reread the extract, and on second thoughts there are only a couple of sections which may need tweaking so as not to sound awkward when recorded. Will get back to you guys.
K, don't die today, or you'll never get to experience the hilarity of hearing me attempt to narrate.
On the excessive levels of background noise: I've been playing around with Audacity, and the background noise really is excessive. However, if I turn on the background noise filter beforehand (using my sound manager) or remove the noise afterwards using the effects in the program, my voice becomes so metallic it's practically unrecognisable (and definitely not human). Any suggestions?
hee, yes. Very similar to Bonanza, which provokes much hilarity at my end, but anyway.
Audacity: I found I had issues when trying to work on a laptop: the fan/drive was too loud and too close to the mic, but in a quiet small room and on the main computer, it worked ok? I'm not terribly technical, so I'm afraid that's the limit of my advice...
