Whee, meme again!

Filling the time in between filling in the huge fic:

Give me one of my own stories, and a timestamp sometime in the future after the end of the story, or sometime in the past before the story started, and I'll write you at least a hundred words of what happened then, whether it's five minutes before the story started or ten years in the future.

You may also ask about stuff that happened while the story was going on, in the margins.

ps: go claim stuff in the post below!

I AM AMAZINGLY SLOW, but I get there in the end!

Prodigal; during dinner

Discretion might as well be the motto of every Shinra executive; after a while, you come to appreciate the odd place where you can eat dinner without being recognised and pointed out. The bland shopowner with the rude waitress and fast, sloppy service become essential to an easy night out. No papers, no one asking you to sign anything, no one following you out of the corner of their eye, no one casually eavesdropping.

Lazard no longer lets down his guard so much as he forces it screaming back. Reeve has an easier time of it by far: they take a car down two sectors, park, get out, walk two blocks, slip into a small family-owned restaurant that the engineer has apparently patronised for upwards of a decade, and by the time all this sneaking is through Lazard feels uncomfortable in his own skin. Reeve just takes off his coat and chases down his favourite items on the menu.

'Why don't we get a bottle?' Reeve suggests. 'That looks good.'

'You're leaving early tomorrow, aren't you?' Lazard asks, raising his eyebrows. 'Are you sure you want to catch your flight to Junon with a hangover?'

'One day you will get used to helicopter flights out into the field,' Reeve says, motioning for the waitress. 'And you will learn that nothing can make a damned flight in a perilous machine any worse than it already is.'

Lazard wants to say something along the lines of Reeve being very odd, but he thinks that Reeve is also very practical, in an old-man-cynic kind of way. He plays with the chopsticks on the table instead, absently. Without the steel and glass background of Shinra Tower behind him, Lazard looks more like the family he's not meant to resemble than he ever has.

'You're young,' Reeve points out, leaning back in his chair and watching the younger Director. Mentorship is a tricky thing. You don't want to end up giving advice and breeding monsters who'll only end up blaming you for your good intentions. Things have a tendency of going to hell in this place. 'Young enough to still get angry over all the things that the company's done and will do to you.'

'Shinra's not as altruistic and clean as the President would have the rest of the world believe,' Lazard says, looking angry - righteously so, the worst sort - but Reeve cuts him off with a wave of his hand.

'And who doesn't know that? But if you're going to get angry about things you've been denied personally, and wrap that ambition of yours up in some glorified race to the top of the corporate ladder, you're not going to get anywhere, Lazard. I use Urban Development to build bridges - real bridges. Don't use SOLDIER to build weapons.'

Oooh, really like this. Love the interaction between the two of them, and the what might have beens. Lazard really is one of my favorite characters.

:D I'm all worried for writing for him; Tseng has eaten my brains the last couple of days, and everything seems a bit funny to me now. xD

"Tseng has eaten my brains" just begs to be made into a journal title or t-shirt or something....

*laughs* One day I'll mock up a design for it. This will not be what I do today, I will study today, I will study today, oh yes I will
