WORLD DESTROYING MONSTERS AJlsfkjs

Studying, it eats me whole and makes me sweat, but it also makes me want to get up on my feet and destroy the world with huge chunks of information asfjlahsg keyboardsmash.

I want to do almost anything but revise right now; I want to write Tseng being unafraid and Sector 7ish, I want to write Dick being hugely angry and yet still bright, I want to write Bruce without the Wayne or the Batman, I want to write Reno as I first saw him walking over flowers with a magrod over his shoulder, I want (almost but not quite) to watch Estraven take the world down with him, freeze it up and make it Winter all over again.

Mostly I WILL DO THESE THINGS, but not until I eat my textbook.

Meanwhile, a shorter version of the above: memetime! Snagged off [livejournal.com profile] sister_coyote.

Pick a character that I have written -- or maybe even a character you could see me writing, if I know her -- then 5 numbers between 1 and 100. Comment with the character name and the five numbers, and I'll answer the five corresponding questions from this list.

For very best results, a character I've written more than once, as I have better headcanon the more I write someone, but I'll give other characters a shot. I'll take the same character more than once as long as the numbers are different.

My caveat lector is that my response to your question will probably not be standard-standard: the way I write a character fluctuates a whole lot, so the answers you get probably != the way characters are in any one of the fics I've done. 8D

[edit] Convenient happy fandom list (non-exhaustive): Final Fantasy VII/XII, Batman and family, Oceans and family, most of Tolkien, Fullmetal Alchemist, Baccano!, Samurai Champloo, most non-Earthsea Le Guin, Pratchett!

I want to write Reno as I first saw him walking over flowers with a magrod over his shoulder

My first (and VERY lasting) image of that was little princess Reno bouncing down the flower field. I SO HATE YOU RIGHT NOW! *ded*

Meanwhile, a shorter version of the above: memetime!

How about we celebrate this with.. RENO! 19, 23, 37, 83 and 97?

[identity profile] karanguni.livejournal.com 2008-09-06 11:41 am (UTC)(link)
8D IT WAS A COOL SCENE IN THE GAME. No flower fields! Just a grubby old church and a Turk. *BEAMS* Your mind is the crazy one, not me! 8D 8D

19. Where did you learn most of your skills and other abilities?

Question's got it right: skills are one thing, abilities are another. Skills? You pick things up while you're on the job. Shinra covers its ass first, so you know I know how to use whatever they put in my hand, but the ability to hit the slums and come back up again later? That one's all me.

23. As a child, what were your favorite activities?

Huh. Maybe stealing shit. Adrenaline rush and getting to play with whatever I snagged. Comfort and joy, right there.

37. If you could change one thing from your past, what would it be, and why?

That's like asking me if I wanted my whole damn life re-packaged, right? 'Cause either you're a Turk or you ain't, and it's not something you want to change or not. Everything else is small stuff. I don't know; do I look like they pay me to think about schmuck like this?

83. What are your pet peeves?

Natural-born idiots and natural-born heroes. We get a lotta both, in this town.

97. What is the one thing for which you would most like to be remembered after your death?

Not a slut: didn't fuck things for money.

Since [livejournal.com profile] _ice_lady_ was faster with the Reno-question (and your!reno really rocks) I stick w/ Tseng and let's say:
22. As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
36. What is the most embarrassing thing ever to happen to you?
51. Is there anything you absolutely refuse to do under any circumstances? Why do you refuse to do it?
79. What, if anything, shocks or offends you?
90. Name three things you consider yourself to be very good at, and three things you consider yourself to be very bad at.

22. As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

An identity as opposed to an occupation: I wanted to be affluent. There are few things that migrants and poor men can do. There are few things that rich men could not. The goal was material, the aspiration, less so.

36. What is the most embarrassing thing ever to happen to you?

Being found less well-versed in - and less concerned with - my apparently native language than my erstwhile adopted one by a man who knew more about loyalties than I ever did, at that age.

51. Is there anything you absolutely refuse to do under any circumstances? Why do you refuse to do it?

Not exactly the easiest question to answer in absolute terms. I'd say: go back upon an oath, and more than one person would call me a liar. But I differentiate it from lying - oaths are principle-bound, lies are provisional and occasionally part of obeying the rules of engagement.

Why? If you don't have principles in this line of work, you have, frankly, little else.

79. What, if anything, shocks or offends you?

Few things serve to shock. I've learnt to stop taking offense.

90. Name three things you consider yourself to be very good at, and three things you consider yourself to be very bad at.

Discretion, etiquette, competency. Obedience, volume, eloquency.

I gotta be me. ♥

Zack! Questions 4, 8, 42, 73, 87 *goes to actually look at what questions those correspond to now* Oooh, fun.

[identity profile] karanguni.livejournal.com 2008-09-06 03:57 pm (UTC)(link)
4. Do you have any siblings? What are/were they like?

Nah, I'm an only child. Broke my parents hearts when I told them I wanted to be in SOLDIER, which is pretty much why I worked so hard to get good at it. They were pretty proud, eventually, but it took them a while to come around.

8. To which social class do you belong?

It's a real good old fashion Midgar question to ask, right? Back in Gongaga we never really thought about that kinda thing. I'm me, you're you, we're all one big happy. These days in the city I guess I'm a SOLDIER, which is "class" enough considering Shinra owns, like, 99% of the place.

42. What are your religious views?

Don't really have any! Just want to go through life as a good person. I'm pretty sure that what goes around comes around - you reap what you sow, and all of that.

73. What is your favorite food?

Mum's homecooked stuff. There's this really cool 24 hour place down 7th that serves chilli dogs that you wouldn't believe. And then there's a hole in the wall deli just outside of Plate-8th that the suits go to that actually isn't half bad. And ---

Man, I'm from SOLDIER. Anything that does come out of a packet, a can or the ground tastes like heaven to me.

87. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

Sometimes I sorta wish I could stop my mouth from running off without my head's permission, y'know? But it's not like something I really wanna change. I'm a happy guy, so sue me.

[identity profile] aikonamika.livejournal.com 2008-09-06 05:12 pm (UTC)(link)
*laughs* Those are awesome. I love how, in this (and all the other's you've answered), you manage to get the character's "voice" in there even in the short space of a few lines. *grin*

The thing about food is one I've always been interested by - I've seen two different portrayals of SOLDIERs and food. One side says that they'll pretty much eat anything, because they need the fuel for their bodies (like teenaged boys, you know?), and the other side says that they tend to be picky as hell and have various sensativities because the mako enhances senses. All senses, including taste. I can honestly see both sides of it, but yah. I personally believe that even if Zack weren't a SOLDIER, he'd be one of those guys who just likes food.

Sephiroth: THE RIGHT OTHER END OF THE SPECTRUM.

No, I take that back. Genesis. Genesis probably wouldn't eat anything that cost less than half his hand. Or anything with apples in it.

[identity profile] sister-coyote.livejournal.com 2008-09-06 04:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Can I do a weird one?

Estraven, 5, 23, 68, 82, 91

(I picked truly at random, so if any of them assume background that isn't true of a Gethenian, I can pick more numbers. :) )

EEE ESTRAVEN. *dies a happy death and ditches work to do this one*

5. Where do you live now, and with whom? Describe the place and the person/people.

Once, I lived in Estre. I think that is where I will always desire to live, within. In another time, I lived with a friend, a lover. Now I live with myself, in a corner dwelling of the Palace. It is a building dedicated to a love gone insane.

I think, personally, that it is exactly where I am meant to live. I have always lived without, in most senses that word brings to mind.

23. As a child, what were your favorite activities?

Rowing. We would go out to the ice lakes during the thaw, and see if we could beat out friends across to the other bank. In the winter, we would skate, or pull together. Endless long treks on our own. I enjoyed that. Other times we would go out in a group, and laugh at idle fantasies of crossing the Ice.

68. Do you like interacting with large groups of people? Why or why not?

These days I think I dislike it almost as much as I wish I could enjoy it. Politicians are cruel creatures, and when too many of them gather together everyone ends up tripping over someone else's shadow, or their own. But it is people that I love - and when I look back on days before I entered the kyoremmy, or at least before I was invested with the Prime Minister's chain, I think I enjoyed the art of laughter and conversation.

82. Are you spontaneous, or do you always need to have a plan?

I grow stupid in close situations. Planning - I am always planning. It is the only thing I can do well: all I have are my hunches, and the ability to work on them. I am not gifted with either guile or charisma. So I must make do, and plot my course through life.

91. Do you like yourself?

That is a frank question to ask, and requires more introspection than I think I dare indulge in. The accurate answer would take too long; the short answer - and the true answer - would probably be "no". I have not liked myself for an age, and my refusal to change comes entirely out of my own stubborness.

[identity profile] karanguni.livejournal.com 2008-09-07 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
Been a while since I wrote this boy!

1. What is your full name?

Deusericus. Lazard Deusericus.

2. Where and when were you born?

Midgar born and bred an odd twenty or so years ago; some people pity me for this. More for the former than the latter, though.

3. Who are/were your parents? (Know their names, occupations, personalities, etc.)

I do not think I remember my father. My mother was a good woman, though I'd rather not disclose her name (not so much company policy and protection, if you understand). She lived wild for a while, I think, but by the time I'd grown up enough to understand her she'd mellowed. Now she lives out in the country: she likes the green, she says, more than the grey.

6. What is your occupation?

I'm the Director of SOLDIER for Shinra. I think that says everything, really.

41. What is your greatest fear?

Losing what family I've built up around me over the years. They matter - more, almost, than blood relations ever have to me.

How about Terry? (I know this must shock you with the unexpectedness. :P)

Questions 16, 22, 42, 74 and 85.

[identity profile] karanguni.livejournal.com 2008-09-07 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
16. What is your earliest memory?

Can't say I've got just one - when you're small it all just blurs together, right? But I remember going out with my mum and dad a lot, while they were still together. They liked bringing me to the movies.

22. As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

Rich and happy? I don't think I was the smartest kid on the block. You have to be a certain measure of dumb to run with the crowd I ran with. Probably just wanted to be someone who had control over stuff; after the divorce the world just sort of fell apart for a while, and that can be real frustrating.

42. What are your religious views?

Don't piss people off and they won't piss on you? I'd believe in the devil sooner than I'd believe in god, but I'm sceptical like that.

74. What, if anything, do you like to read?

Read, as in books? Wayne's got this huge library that he likes to haunt. Me? I like going through old files that the man keeps around the manor. Find out a lot about Gotham and how it used to be, and a couple of other things. Way more interesting than fiction, or physics.

85. What is your greatest strength as a person?

Everyone calls me stubborn, so I guess that must be it. Giving up isn't really in my vocabulary.

[identity profile] ununoriginal.livejournal.com 2008-09-07 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
oh well, since reno's already been done... :p jin from samurai champloo?

5, 9, 19, 26, 80. thanks!

[identity profile] karanguni.livejournal.com 2008-09-07 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
5. Where do you live now, and with whom? Describe the place and the person/people.

I am a ronin. I travel.

9. Do you have any allergies, diseases, or other physical weaknesses?

No. I take alcohol less well than Mugen. That says little, though.

19. Where did you learn most of your skills and other abilities?

My master's dojo. Various apprenticeships. The road.

26. When and with whom was your first kiss?

I was sixteen. She was a young girl in the nearest town. I was young enough to be distracted from my training, for a little while.

80. What would you do if you had insomnia and had to find something to do to amuse yourself?

If there is space, train. If there is not, meditate. If there is company, shogi.

[identity profile] ununoriginal.livejournal.com 2008-09-07 02:23 pm (UTC)(link)
i like how u depict jin's matter-of-fact, slightly wry tone ^_^ it's very much how i see him too - controlled, rather reserved, not wasteful, even with words. now all i have to do is to finish watching the series

thanks for this! ^__^
