karanguni: because those are some happy drugs (WATA you on boy?)
While I scribble endlessly at Endless Fic, allow me to distract you with that which has distracted me.

Layer Cake, 1:40 of Craig/Gambon drug-dealer con-man awesomeness with a side-serving of Tom Hardy as a double-firsts Cambridge cocaine cutter. WHY ARE YOU EVEN STILL READING THIS?

Narratively and thematically it's an in-between the Coen Brothers and Snatch. Surprise, surprise! Because Snatch was produced by Director Matthew Vaughn, also of Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels fame and - sort of/not really weirdly - Stardust. He's the reason why half this movie looks like amazing still photography.

I could make comments about how much I love the OST (STARSAILOR) asjklfjal and go on about dialects of English and how they make my head spin around in happy circles, but then I COULD PICSPAM LIKE THE SHALLOW, SHALLOW PERSON I AM RIGHT NOW:

You really really really really want to click this link. )

Please go watch this film as I expire on the cutting room floor of its goodness.
karanguni: pushes your face out of the way (watanabe KEN)
Yeah, so when I give up on writing fic I make icons to make it all better. 8D Which reveals to me that I really love Saitou more than I consciously knew! That, and/or Watanabe Ken is just more badass than everyone else! BOTH! It helps that I spent a day at work intensely watching a movie in which he was a truck driver listening to a radio drama show and howling at every interval. I love me my Watanabe Ken.

So, money and the power, power and the money? )

Also did some tweaking to the DW journal; this thing is whitespacicus maximus! There are days I don't know whether I dislike my LJ for being too crowded or my DW for being to broad. They're both enjoyable to write into, though; I like that I haven't felt the need to rehaul the design this year. \o/

Time to chug the caffeine.

Though maybe only after some sleep.

Skype conversation with D thus ends, at 235am/435am, as such:

D: How do I end this -- oh, the red button!

Okay, back to work.
karanguni: (HUGHES junshou)
While I'm working on a) prompts, b) not getting beheaded by work and c) putting things down on my diary like "take over the world", "write your first short story or novel", "find someone to commission that painting you have in your head" and "de-entrail the neighbours" (guess which are real!), I leave a few recs lying about to compensate for my Paul Bettany-afflicted rabidity. I love inventing new words, god, "rabidity"...

Antique Bakery

I watched two episodes of the anime and was not initially impressed, but by the time I hit the main stride of the series you could not have pried me off of it with a crowbar. It's as though the animators thought, "hey, let's make the first 2 eps really yaoi-cliche-like, and then beat everyone up with the sheer awesomeness of the characterisation for the rest of the anime."

Fools and their Money by treneka - oh jesus. Tachibana's a hard enough character to understand, much less write, and trenaka has him down so perfectly that I weep and roll around in the sugary goodness of her confection. Actually, everyone is brilliant in this piece - Ono is as mild and acidic as he could ever be in canon, Chikage is heart-warming and heart-breaking, and oh, Kanda? I NOW QUOTE:

"Dolce - Doesn't that mean sweet?" Kanda asked, with a quick glare in Tachibana's direction.

Undertow by [livejournal.com profile] devikun. ALjsklfjaskljflasjflasjf lkasjf Tachibana/Ono that I CAN BELIEVE IN. There are not enough braincells left in me to make this rec any more wordy than it already is. Just. Just. Just go clicky and licky or something.

Omikuji by Tenika D. Says "manga only", but really, you can read it with just anime knowledge. Where do I even start? This is a Tachibana/Ono not lead by Ono, not dominated by Ono, and not Tachibana-warping. Tenika D underscores Tachibana's entire attitude to life in this fic, and then blows everything out of the water with the sheer amount of in-character hilarity, poignancy and austerity that she puts in. Everywhere. Like icing. On cupcakes.

Final Fantasy VII

Petronia's stuff. I request that you go read her and read her and read her and read her and then read her again. Shinra-centric!

Ouran

This fic by [livejournal.com profile] mercurial_wit. An OT-everyone, written in the most amazing, accurate and immensely un-melodramatic way you can imagine. You kind of want to read on how Kyouya'd answer the telephone or what Haruhi's make for dinner or how Tamaki's couch might look like in this universe after you finish the fic.

Yeah, um, if anyone had any illusions that I'd finally be writing? *BEAMS!*
karanguni: (rahm EMANUEL)
I am a procrastinator: I apologise to the people whom I've owed gigantic amounts of stuff for forever. In the next two weeks, going out and getting finished will be:

[] first draft: outline for manuscript for work
[x] re-edit: website for work
[] 6 fic journals for the [livejournal.com profile] livelongnmarry people, with additional stuff in the envelopes because holy crap, I am so behind
[] journal layout for [livejournal.com profile] white_jenna
[] left hand of darkness fic for [livejournal.com profile] misura, another LLNM throwback
[] prettification for Midsummer Mania
[x] mail to [livejournal.com profile] mjules
[] and friend of mjules
[] [livejournal.com profile] nasdack, as much as I can spare

For myself:

[] dumping community for reading through the Bible, bits and pieces of the classics, etc
[] answer all pending mail to both [livejournal.com profile] shifgrethors.

For some reason, working off-schedule's made me procrastinate so much it's crazy. D: TIME FOR THIS TO CHANGE.

Also, if you're in North America or the European continent, it is your turn for random mail. *BEAMS* Since I'm sending [livejournal.com profile] mjules stuff, if anyone wants anything, JUST TELL ME. I have oodles of cards, if you like cards. I love cards. I love sending cards. /random

Alsoalsowik, calling [livejournal.com profile] knightlineninja! I NEED YOUR ADDRESS. HAVE SAMURAI CHAMPLOO STUFF YOU MAY LIKE.

Done with my run, now for a shower, and getting back back back into action.
karanguni: (BARACK chibi)
So, who's the crazy person who has decided to give as many people on the flist a present as she can? I AM! *BEAMS* In the spirit of the new year and attempting to kick my ass back into action. I've taken what prompts you guys have given me over the last however-many-times-I-decided-to-click-previous-entries, and have spun what I can. Happy new year! ♥ from this side of the universe.

[livejournal.com profile] dnatio_memoriae generously donated her art skillz for a couple of these, and may be contributing more in the morning! IS THE WORLD NOT A BEAUTIFUL PLACE. OH YES, IT IS. ♥

numinicious - Lucifer (Lucifer, postcard) )

dnatio_memoriae: Baccano! (Luck, Claire, writing on the wall) )

white_jenna: Final Fantasy VII (Tseng, cocktail napkin) )

muse_lightning: nasdack FFVII AU (Tseng, Elena, post-its) )

knightlineninja: Cowboy Bebop (Spike, short letter) )

voksen: Baccano! (Czes, longhand letter) )

logistika_nyx: nasdack AU (Elena/Tseng: he's full of wishful thinking) )

misura: nasdack AU (Dark Nation, Rufus) )

If you feel you have been deprived a present, feel free to dump a prompt of any sort on me! After all, Chinese New Year (ha! coming from me, least traditional of people!) lasts a good long while, technically! :D Right now I am going to lean back in my seat and let my eyes explode for a while. ♥
karanguni: (CLAIRE is amazed)
Busy as a house on fire, lately, but there's always time for distractions, and I figure smaller ones are better than bigger ones. Ergo:

One-sentence drabble meme!

You give me a fandom, and then a character, or a word-prompt, or a small unicorn, or a scenario -- I'll give you a sentence. You are free to a) give me as many prompts as you like b) cross things over like stitches c) ask me for fandoms I don't usually write. No promises on how many sentences I'll get back to you if you ask me for a million, though. :D

And some recs:

Stained Glass Sky, by [livejournal.com profile] icor. Final Fantasy VII, Cissnei/Aerith - such beautiful worldbuilding, and easy-to-read characterisation. Some of the best and only femmeslash you'll get in the fandom these days.

Tiny Halloween Crisis Core cast fanart, by [livejournal.com profile] mogumogu. I weep at the Kunsel. Weep.

[edit]

And some meta:

People who've read my stuff tell me that I worldbuild a lot, which is kinda funny, because it's not something I realise that I do. How can I? I live in a tiny island. I'm young. I haven't seen enough of the world. Sometimes I wonder, how dare I, but I never really thought about it.

Neil Gaiman did, when he wrote American Gods. The book's practically cult reading in fandom, and if you're read it, or will ever read it, that tiny little introspective by Neil will both humble you and make you want to see more than what the viewport of your life has let you see.

And then dare to be daring.
karanguni: (Alex KRAPANOS)
Staking out a place at the beach in my local Coffee Bean outlet in order to force myself to study. Ridiculous, but true. Somehow, sitting at home only inspires me to write more things for [livejournal.com profile] logistika_nyx to chew on.

Microsoft Word refuses to believe that "forex" is a word. It is a word, and your stupid little programme relies on it more than you believe.

not dead yet, stop.

middle of examination hell, stop.

how is everyone, question mark, stop?

oh god, and after this we have LLNM writing to do, stop.

yes we do, precious, stop.

mmmm, batman, stop.

guh, need more icon space for snarky house icons, stop.

update over, stop.

[edit]

nevermind, stop. things about dick and bruce are more important:

infinite crisis = worlds colliding = multiple everyone

superman #2 = wants to destroy our world because our world is imperfect

bruce's argument against destruction = dick

later, while fighting to keep the world alive, dick and bruce bond.

i do love comics that make my sad, sorry little paper-pushing life better. \o\
karanguni: (BONTEN is sleepy)
Studying, it eats me whole and makes me sweat, but it also makes me want to get up on my feet and destroy the world with huge chunks of information asfjlahsg keyboardsmash.

I want to do almost anything but revise right now; I want to write Tseng being unafraid and Sector 7ish, I want to write Dick being hugely angry and yet still bright, I want to write Bruce without the Wayne or the Batman, I want to write Reno as I first saw him walking over flowers with a magrod over his shoulder, I want (almost but not quite) to watch Estraven take the world down with him, freeze it up and make it Winter all over again.

Mostly I WILL DO THESE THINGS, but not until I eat my textbook.

Meanwhile, a shorter version of the above: memetime! Snagged off [livejournal.com profile] sister_coyote.

Pick a character that I have written -- or maybe even a character you could see me writing, if I know her -- then 5 numbers between 1 and 100. Comment with the character name and the five numbers, and I'll answer the five corresponding questions from this list.

For very best results, a character I've written more than once, as I have better headcanon the more I write someone, but I'll give other characters a shot. I'll take the same character more than once as long as the numbers are different.

My caveat lector is that my response to your question will probably not be standard-standard: the way I write a character fluctuates a whole lot, so the answers you get probably != the way characters are in any one of the fics I've done. 8D

[edit] Convenient happy fandom list (non-exhaustive): Final Fantasy VII/XII, Batman and family, Oceans and family, most of Tolkien, Fullmetal Alchemist, Baccano!, Samurai Champloo, most non-Earthsea Le Guin, Pratchett!
karanguni: (uh HAWKEYE)
Considering that I will be shoving the remainder of my philosophy syllabus down my own throat tomorrow in addition to the, um, Ambitious Fic Plan.

So, the to-do list for the new morning:

- Lots of studying
- Triple Bill consisting of

a) writing three fics
b) posting three fics
c) straddling three fandoms.

Mmm, I love how ideas come at the worst of times, and during examination season, to boot.

Triple Bill #1: Batman

Will hopefully break the four thousand word barrier and not leave me dead; continuation of the current arc, with huge smack-in-face guest appearances and a lot of Terry being Terry being Terry.

Triple Bill #2: Final Fantasy VII

Because just when you think you can't write for it without inspiration, inspiration hits: more Tseng fic, this time with creepy scientists and a lot of Creepy Tseng. Kind of. Sort of.

Triple Bill #3: Baccano!

Sending myself right back to hell with this one; playing with Claire and... stuff.

Feel free to scream at me a lot tell me which one ought to come first; mostly I just want to do something during my break hours that don't involve plucking my eyeballs out and/or major depression.

I wish I were not a student; then I could write fic all day and also earn some income, if only to augment my stupid and petty desire to buy more icon space.

I am shallow, like a frozen-over Pacific Ocean.

[edit] And then, sneakily browsing the flist, I discover pointless feel-good memes, which are good for everyone who chooses to play! \o\ I'll do you if you do me mmm mindless punning at one in the morning.

Snaps Cup Meme
karanguni: (BONTEN is sleepy)
As I finish up some work with economics (oh god, that took me two days, this is evil) and fight my way through literature, a couple of fandom things, just for personal metamumbling.

When I grow up, I want to be an antivillain antihero anti-goddamned-everything, ma! )

THAT WAS YOUR FIFTEEN MINUTE WAFFLE, BITCH; BACK TO WORK.

WHY IS IT 1240 IN THE MORNING NOW-

Also, I know you guys are all sick of hearing about this, but another small pimp note for [livejournal.com profile] livelongnmarry: am offering subdomain web hosting for a year, if anyone's interested! \o/

Need to start doing stuff. But what. Oh man. Just want to sleep. Sleep more. SLEEP MORE.

Okay, so apparently I have to sit for these strange things called "exams" from tomorrow onwards. This usually heralds a, what, "haitus"?

Well. If you consider abandoning books to design a new graphics community for myself, yeah, well. Um. Haitus. Right.

[livejournal.com profile] shifgrethor

Go take a look! Nothing much there right now, but if you guys leave little hinty prompts as to what could go up once I'm done selling my soul to my education... 8D

[edit] ... and why not app for an RP ([livejournal.com profile] evernoir) at the same time? I think I'm suicidal. But I'll be playing Tseng while being suicidal, so it's okay. Anyone want to app along with me?

[edit2] And then I watched V6's making-of Chou and oh god, I think I am going to hell but I want to write Nagano/Sakamoto with children!Go/Okada/Morita and uncle!Inocchi fic so bad now.
karanguni: (JUDGE)
Mmm, ficspam. Working on everything that I'm not meant to be working on, as usual.

[edit] Because I have no willpower whatsoever: Rufus/Tseng porn. Tseng's going to have one hell of a laundry bill.

Personal ref of random blabbery ideas for the prompts I've got left to do \o/ ENGLISH IS NOT A LANGUAGE THAT I CAN SPREAK. Go ahead. Comment. I DARE YOU. )

Also, Iron Man fic rec of major amazingness: The Value of Secrets by Maya Tawi. Jarvis/Tony Stark. You know you want to.

Meanwhile, a FMA/Final Fantasy VII drabble of mine on IJ, linked to avoid 242904 Posts of Death on your flist. Zack and Hawkeye and dogs. Yes, dogs.

And then the real post:

Title: When The World Ends
Fandom: Baccano!/Ocean's 11
Characters: Claire; Rusty, Luck, Danny and Linus cameos
Rating: PG
Warnings: Crossover written for the No True Pair challenge over at IJ; prompt being: Rusty and Claire: it's the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine. Genfic is the way to go, because I fail at plot and all that other cool stuff. D:
Summary: Playing poker until Armageddon.

2192 words and the epic failure of plot!sense. \o/

Things to write for people:

- [livejournal.com profile] knightlineninja: Zack and Tseng; either Crazy Ronin Fic or Winter Is Coming!!! or Welcome To Wutai (TM)

If I knew the way
I'd seek it out and set forth too;
With scarlet leaves
Woven into offerings,
Autumn has departed

- [livejournal.com profile] aikonamika: Turks; no-kill job: PROSTITUTION RING ANYONE fjalsjflas or THE TEN TIMES TSENG DID INTERESTING NEGOTIATIONS why am I using capslock smash smash

- schatterstern @ IJ: friendly fire: all I can think about is that line from Sage Francis' song Slow Down Gandhi: friendly fire - that's a funny term, like "civil war".

- [livejournal.com profile] shadowwaker: Rufus; acting evil being good: PROSTITUTION! I really need to stop thinking so much about Rufus and just start writing him. If I can canon-bash through Tseng, I SHOULD BE ABLE TO -- *falters and fails*

- [livejournal.com profile] logistika_nyx: Yuffie versus Tseng, TSENG WINS, because Tseng is a Hippy Tree Hugger (TM). Sort of. Kind of. Almost. Yeah.

[[Anyone else that didn't leave prompts in the last post is invited to leave them now!]]

Also, hi:

Have any of you guys travelled to Japan before? And know cheap but good places to stay? Or really cool places to visit? Am planning a trip with friends and really want to keep my budget as low as low can go (otherwise I necessarily sell my soul in the interim). :D :D :D

And as a potential side note, anyone know anything about travelling cheap in the Toronto and New York regions? If I'm going alone I can bunk out in Canada with a friend, but since I'm thinking of taking people with me I'm looking for good places to put them if it works out.

INTERNETS I KNOW THAT YOU ARE POWERFUL. PROVE ME RIGHT!
karanguni: (HUGHES junshou)
Quick, you're all probably bored enough to reply if you're reading this (*g*) - Tseng and Lazard, yes/no? And while you're at it - which pairing/sort-of-pairing within the guts of Shinra presses your buttons? This is not me scuffing around for fic ideas, nope. LOOK OVER THAT WAY.

And also, anyone know if Tseng and Lazard have ever existed in the same fic before? The depths of FFVII community hell I am not brave enough to confront on a Monday night - any Shinra fics that you guys can rec to me?
karanguni: (JUDGE)
Finally got off my ass and tried to do something to andmoreslow.net, and for a half-day's work the results aren't too shabby. Mmm, editing code that I'm totally unfamiliar with. Tastes like fried chicken. Now, to icon, or to fic, or to do work that might actually get me somewhere in life?

A universe of unmapped grief and love
And new master light is beyond
The pleiades and plow and southern stars.

O soaring
Icarus of outworld, burn bright
The traceries of known skymarks,
Slide the highway planets behind
Your clear waxed wings.

Go conquer the everywhere left
Beyond your sad confinement
In a predicted bonehouse,
Witch thrown riddle of flesh
And water.

O soar until nothing
remains but great glittering holes
In the black godspun shirt over your head.
