karanguni: (CLAIRE is amazed)

On the working list:

Lots of things are churning in the ficbin, but nothing's ready to be shown to the big bad world yet. \o A couple of teasers/random thoughts:

Final Fantasy VII: Restorations III

Every time I embark upon a multiparter, my first thought is you are such a lazy bastard and then the next is oh my god what have you got yourself into now? It's kind of freaky that Restorations, in spite of being slow and short and snail-like, has evolved into a new category of STOP OH GOD WHAT ARE YOU DOING. Next up: reverse-colonialisation, Reeve being a better politician than the whole world combined, Rufus getting his ass summarily handed to him by the irony gods, Tseng v. Past v. Present, and Wutai Existing For Us To Make Stuff Up About It.

Batfic: pauper!AU

  1. Dick and Bruce argue for great profit
  2. Why does this sound like every other Batfic in the universe?
  3. Oh, and Harvey Dent.

Gundam Wing

Zechs/Treize, because I NEED TO WRITE THIS SO BAD. I've this bad feeling that I'm going to need 8 hours in front of my episodes with a notepad and a few flowcharts before I get to writing it with any measure of confidence, though. But the nature of prediction! The ETERNITY OF FRIENDSHIP. Treize's blatant inability to keep his hands to himself! Zechs versus magnanimity versus monogamy! \o/!!

Antique Bakery

I am so stalled on this one, but Tachibana needs to go get (way)laid, courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] voksen and the good nation of Korea.

Vassalord

This needs a pimp post all on its own. Suffice to say: vampires (in a good way), no clear seme/uke relationship, no clear BL, NANAO CHRONO, mindfuckery on a level that I only wish I could emulate, and lots and lots and lots and lots of fun.

Here, go read scans, or head to [livejournal.com profile] ivory_and_horn's IJ pimp post.

Series I've finished ploughing my way through sans mercy or humility watching:

x Peacemaker Kurogane (uh, what)
x Kuroshitsuji (I like Sebastian's clothes better than I like the plot)

Any recs, guys? :D? Anything? Good historical stuff would totally rock my boat.

Also, I am pimping out this course that [livejournal.com profile] shadowwaker is doing. Please do head to this post if you want to sign up! I'll leave the objectives under a cut, but there are loads more details on that post than there are here, so please do go check it out. ♥

Objective:

This (free) online workshop aims to teach about the basics of Creative Writing in 6 lessons. These lessons embody:

* Getting started
* Dialogues / Trialogues / Monologues
* Characters
* Dynamics / Timing
* Story Telling

RESTORATIONS <3<3<3

Antique Bakery (the manga) was fun, and the featured desserts absolutely mouthwatering (I had to be eating while reading this one).

I got through the first three volumes of Vassalord, and strangely enough find myself indifferent towards it.

Have downloaded Kuroshitsuji (manga, so many chapters oh god, I hope they're good) only because you mentioned that Sebastian is like a demonic butler version of Tseng <3

You already know what I'll pimp: SAKURA GARI! AND I WILL NOT REST UNTIL YOU HAVE READ THIS THING! If it's any incentive, it fulfils the historical stuff criteria :D

[identity profile] ivory-and-horn.livejournal.com 2009-03-27 06:11 am (UTC)(link)
THIS IS TRUE. About Sakura Gari and historical-ness, that is.

[identity profile] dnatio-memoriae.livejournal.com 2009-03-27 06:29 am (UTC)(link)
IS IT ALSO NOT TRUE THAT SG IS SPLENDID IN A DARK, MIND-TWISTY WAY?

But seriously, Sakura Gari, along with Blade of the Immortal, are the only two mangas I go out of my way to pimp.

[identity profile] ivory-and-horn.livejournal.com 2009-03-27 06:36 am (UTC)(link)
IT IS TRUE, SO TRUE.

I like to say that Sakura Gari is a trainwreck, in that you KNOW the characters aren't going to end well, BUT YOU CANNOT LOOK AWAY because the journey towards their bad end is just so intriguing to watch. Seriously, this may be the only canon where I will actually be disappointed if there is a happy fluffy ending.

[identity profile] dnatio-memoriae.livejournal.com 2009-03-27 07:17 am (UTC)(link)
I'm with you in hoping that the ending is /not/ happy and fluffy. I don't think the series has backed itself entirely into the corner where the only feasible ending is a worst case scenario on all counts. Nevertheless, I'd like to think that even if Souma and Masataka end up sustaining some sort of relationship, it will always be irrevocably broken as a result of Souma's choices.
Simply put, I have too much respect for what the mangaka has done so far; she's taken a trope that is usually a cheap ploy for catalysing "romance" between two characters and led it somewhere dark, exploring the consequences in a sustained and (relatively) realistic fashion. I really, really hope that she can carry it through to the end.

[identity profile] ivory-and-horn.livejournal.com 2009-03-27 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Even if Souma and Masataka don't end up sustaining a relationship, neither of them will ever be quite right; Masataka will still have the memories and Souma will have live with what he's done. I'm not sure if that would be worse or better than the two of them keeping in touch, however broken it was. But deep down inside, I'll admit that while a happy fluffy ending is not what I want, I'd like an optimistic one, at least. The sense that they're going to be okay. Eventually.

[identity profile] karanguni.livejournal.com 2009-03-27 10:33 am (UTC)(link)
It's a monster, I swear. I'm not a meta writer by any mile - god knows I don't even think about what I'm doing 80% of the time - but lack of university has made me feel tremendously guilty about being dumb. 8D GO REEVE GO.

Re: Antique, you REALLY SHOULD WATCH THE KOREAN MOVIE VERSION, I am just sayin'.

Re: Vassalord, it hits a lot of tropes that I love dearly, plus it's almost BL without tripping the stupid seme/uke lines that I detest! Daw.

Re: Kuroshitsuji - I've actually not read the manga, so you have to tell me how that one goes~

:D WILL TRY IT SOON

[identity profile] dnatio-memoriae.livejournal.com 2009-03-28 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
K, seriously, you're already a great deal more precocious and aware than a lot of the people I know from uni. Also, poo poo to the idea that your writing lacks a meta side (if that's what you were indeed implying). There's plenty there, it's just that you don't choose to smack people upside the head with it.

Re: Antique, the Korean movie version. Didn't they excise all the gay from it or something? I say based on what I vaguely remember reading a long time ago.

Re: Vassalord. I know, I know. It should have hit me harder than it did.

General note: STOP STALLING! TIME IS PRECIOUS! PROCRASTINATION IS EVIL! GO K GO!

[identity profile] voksen.livejournal.com 2009-03-27 07:53 am (UTC)(link)
Nnnnnnnnoooo you're not allowed to stall!!

[identity profile] karanguni.livejournal.com 2009-03-27 10:33 am (UTC)(link)
Blame FY! She writes too perfectly! THERE ARE SO FEW GAPS FOR ME TO FILL.

[identity profile] voksen.livejournal.com 2009-03-27 05:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I think Tachibana's gap needs filling :3

[identity profile] karanguni.livejournal.com 2009-03-27 05:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Not as badly as Zechs' soul needs creaming. :D

*weeps* I'M TRYING.

[identity profile] voksen.livejournal.com 2009-03-27 05:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay I have to admit I was always a giant sucker for 13x6x5 so you should get on that one, too.

Here, have some inspiration.

When I first saw that pic some time ago I remember kind of MELTING THROUGH MY FLOORBOARDS. Even though I don't have, um, floorboards.

Also, his uniform when Zechs goes all WHITE FANG LULZ on us? Yeah. I have. Like. Dreams about the layers and the coat and the shirt and Treize really, really, really needs to be alive so that he can take them off. Or leave them on.

And. And. Wufei has so much potential. And Treize, the bastard. And and and

*HYSTERICAL WEEPING* I AM SO BAD AT MULTIPARTERS BUT I JUST WANT TO WRITE EPIC 13x6 WITH 5 COMING IN TO BUM ON THEIR COUCH AND/OR YELL ANGRILY AT TREIZE AND/OR MAKE ZECHS GO SO CRAZY JEALOUS THAT HE GOES ALL BAD ASS MOTHERFUCKER ON EVERYONE AGAIN AND AND

I'll just go sit down for a while and sip tea now.

Zechs/Treize, because I NEED TO WRITE THIS SO BAD.

and I NEED TO READ THIS SO BAD cuz u'll be writing it :p i love gundam wing - it's a universe tat has as much potential as any in final fantasy, and it would be jus beyond awesome to see wat u make of it. i'm already so excited by the idea ^_^ ganbatte!!!

jus out of curiosity and not meant in any pushy way, um... nasdack!fic alive and kicking? :p

[identity profile] karanguni.livejournal.com 2009-03-27 11:55 am (UTC)(link)
Oh god, it is alive. We just keep being busy and never really fixing the bits we need to fix - we've got a few thousand words worth of *plotline* and around 8000 already written out. ♥

YAY GWING FANS. I thought I was mostly alone down here! The more I watch Zechs the more I want to write for this thing; it's a lot more deep than VII and there's a lot more potential, but I'm really cowardly and Tseng-monogamous. 8D 8D

[identity profile] pere-chan.livejournal.com 2009-03-27 12:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Arrrrgh, which do I focus on??? Well, obviously Batfic and the prospect of MOAR BRUCE/DICK ISSUEZ, because I still haven't gotten over screaming with laughter at that one Outsiders issue you pointed me to with shouty spitty Dickie getting Batman's chin wet. (errr...) Also, EEEEEEEEEEEEE HARVEY.

Also, Treize/Zechs was the OTP that stole my heart, like, a lifetime ago. My very first real yaoi fandom! agah. You really do have a direct line to my hormones don't you? STOP IT. NO WAIT DON'T STOP IT. *indecision tango*

[identity profile] karanguni.livejournal.com 2009-03-27 04:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Ehee hee hee. I feel bad for Brucie. There's a nett tonne worth of emotional carnage headed his way, and he's meant to be all normal!

Also, AJlksfjaslkfjals ONE MORE FOR 13x6! I fell so ridiculously in love with it when I first watched GWing, so I have no idea where is not as much fic out there for the pairing as there is for all the others -- I mean. I mean. THE POWER. THE IDENTITY CRISES. THE AGE OLD FRIENDSHIP. MILITARY LINES. THE QUESTION OF NOIN. THE QUESTION OF WUFEI. THE UNIFORMS. THE MYSTERIOUS PHASING IN AND OUT OF HATE AND LOVE. *weeps*

Whahah, omg, Gundam Wings. The series that got me into yaoi. It's old, and yet, it's still cool. :3

Also, Peacemaker ftw! :D I love that series. (My friend made me cosplay as Hijikata, and I - apparently - even managed to pull off his scary look. Mufufufu.)

Thanks for pimping my post! <3

[identity profile] two-if-by-sea.livejournal.com 2009-04-17 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
Have you read Red River? I was quite fond of it at the time-- I can't remember much about it now. Basara is pretty good too! Neither of them are bl heavy, but they're really amazing stories.

Also if you have never read an Urusawa manga, YOU REALLY SHOULD.

As for actual bl, there is this great series called Golden Days (http://ivyscan.kakyoku.org/?page_id=89) where a boy gets transported into his grandfather's era, and it's not that far into the story now, but it's historical in a whole other sense. :>

[identity profile] karanguni.livejournal.com 2009-04-17 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
AGAIN, PATHETICALLY, I WILL GO: URASAWA?

[identity profile] two-if-by-sea.livejournal.com 2009-04-17 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
THIS MAN (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naoki_Urasawa). HE IS GOD'S GIFT TO MANGA. AFTER OSAMU TEZUKA, OF COURSE.
