karanguni: (RUFUS looks)
This fic officially took my brain, injected a thousand CCs of politics into it, beat it up and left me staggering about wildly. I haven't written something like this, I think, since Empery.

The last (and crowning) jewel of the Honourable Men triple bill (they're all standalones, though, so no need to read through).

I humbly request that you give this one a try. ♥ Okay going to go expire from exhaustion now.

Year One

Fandom: Final Fantasy VII (BC through CC)
Characters: Lazard-Tseng-Rufus, Veld, Reeve, does the City of Midgar count?
Rating: PG13
Warnings: Spans through Crisis Core and Before Crisis backstory. You don't need to know BC, but it helps, and there's a tiny appendix at the bottom of the fic to help you if you'd like.
Summary: From the journals of Urban Development, filling in the lives and empty spaces in Midgar.

7575 words and Midgar being alive.

One gets the impression that we shall soon be bringing them brighter futures as well. )
karanguni: (TSENG smiles)
On meds, and a little woozy, but [livejournal.com profile] white_jenna told me she'd read the small Lazard-Reeve thing I'd written a while back, and I know [livejournal.com profile] _ice_lady_ wanted a bit more of it, so here's some randomly put together bits of two or three Shinra Directors. :D I'm going to sleep on this one before I think of posting it elsewhere; is it too silly, you think?

The original snippet is under the first cut; if you've read that before then just click on the second cut straightaway. \o

Young Ones

A drabble. Reeve, Lazard, sudden guest appearance by Veld. PG. Unabashed cross-referencing of Crisis Core and Before Crisis, though you really don't need to know more beyond the words "Shinra" and "politics". ~1200 words.

The rising political animal is a very dangerous creature, Reeve tells himself. )

Lazard gets what he wants with a combination of sheer, dogged determination and a general apathy shared by every executive save Reeve. )

Restorations, Interlude II

Rating: PG
Characters: Tseng, Rufus, Veld.
Summary: By the end of the world, there were more scars on Tseng than there was skin.
Warnings: Foruth part in the Restorations Arc. Post-Advent Children, with references to Before Crisis.

Part I Interlude I Part II

2197 words, and more Tseng backstory than I really should ever shake a stick at.

Dying, to Tseng, was a job best done neatly.  )

Haven't written in so bloody long I actually had to check my previous fics to see what I was supposed to include in my headers. xD This one's really, really, really weird; I don't have the brains to write coherently, so hey, incoherently works too! 8D

Title: Flip
Rating: PG13
Characters: Tseng, Kadaj; Veld and Rufus cameos
Summary: You take torture, and turn it in on itself.
Warnings: Set during AC, when Kadaj does the mysterious "torture thing" to Tseng and Elena. Written for [livejournal.com profile] logistika_nyx as an early not!birthday present, and also for roads_diverged over at IJ. Talk about killing 3 birds with one weirdly shaped pebble.

2392 and super-experimental writing styles, go!

And there was the first time they ever put him in solitary. )
karanguni: (RENO turns)

Title: Different Country For Different Men
Rating: PG-13
Characters: Vincent/Veld
Summary: Vincent and Veld take a moment in the middle of Midgar rising.
Warnings: Hello, blast from the past. This fic is the total fault of (deep breath) [livejournal.com profile] logistika_nyx, [livejournal.com profile] knightlineninja, [livejournal.com profile] white_jenna, [livejournal.com profile] aikonamika and every other person who mentioned the name "Vincent" to me anytime in the last 24 hours. :D

1384 words and holy shit more worldbuilding, what the hell, and Shakespeare.

Different country for different men, back then. )
karanguni: (TSENG smiles)
Um. This is a "drabble", because Veld says it's so. *BEAMS* There may be "fic" later tonight. God damn Turks.

Title: Honorifics
Rating: PG
Characters: Tseng, Veld. You can turn that comma into a slash, if you want.
Summary: Tseng tries to disinherit himself; Veld thinks he should be doing otherwise. He teaches Tseng to fence with words - in this language and that - because it will be a better blade than any Tseng will ever learn to wield.
Warnings: I don't think I will ever be comfortable counting this in any canon, because it rapes the Japanese language in an attempt to Make Stuff Up About Wutai. Sort of follows after Growing Pains. More wooby Tseng!

1115 words is a drabble; Tseng still has a lot of growing to do. \o\

'There are too many ways of getting around the deferential in this language,' Veld points out. 'How many ways would you tier the company if you spoke the right one instead?' )
karanguni: (TSENG smiles)
*PAINED VICTORY CRY* OH GOD YES. Thank you a million times to the beta-filter; you guys gave me the courage to push forward and finish this. If you are looking for polished Tseng - this is not the place. I present to you baby!Tseng and papa!Veld and all the muck of the Past (TM). \o\ /o/

Title: Growing Pains
Rating: Soft R
Characters: Veld/Tseng
Warnings: A bit of manhandling. All in a day's work for a Turk, really. Pairings if you squint.
Summary: Growing into his responsibility as a Turk was not automatic for Tseng; some things you have to be trained how to do.

5507 words and a whole lot of invented Tseng!backstory, oh god.

Oh?' Veld said, looking up. 'You'll say many things about me when I'm gone, Tseng, but be sure of one thing. You will not say that I brought you up to be a good man.' )
karanguni: (RUFUS' clothes)
Title: Empery
Characters: Tseng; Veld cameo
Rating: Hard R (non-explicit sex, swearing)
Warnings: Written for roads_diverged. Massive AU. Massive culture abuse. Massive abuse in general.
Summary: He was taught that Wutai was the centre of the universe; he could not understand the empire stirring in the East until it was upon him, until it destroyed him, until it changed him, until it gave him empery.

6756 words and oh god this is my baby. Personal justification for Wutai versus Midgar in the original game, transplanted so that it makes sense. If there was one fic I'd beg my flist to read, this would be it.

They said: Empire is coming. By the time he understood what they meant, it was already too late. )

A universe of unmapped grief and love
And new master light is beyond
The pleiades and plow and southern stars.

O soaring
Icarus of outworld, burn bright
The traceries of known skymarks,
Slide the highway planets behind
Your clear waxed wings.

Go conquer the everywhere left
Beyond your sad confinement
In a predicted bonehouse,
Witch thrown riddle of flesh
And water.

O soar until nothing
remains but great glittering holes
In the black godspun shirt over your head.
